Vieux Telegraphe (Grenache blended)

Name: Vieux Telegraphe
Variety: Grenache (blended with other varietals)
Region: La Crau
Country: France
Year: 2009
Price: $79.95

Winery review:  Vieux Telegraphe is from the celebrated plateau called La Crau, a particularly favored site at Chateauneuf-du-Pape that gives this red its characteristic minerality, as if the wine had been filtered over the huge, round stones left over from the melting of the Alpine glaciers when the Rhone Valley was formed.  The vivid color, complexity, and incomparable depth are typical of Vieux Telegraphe, where the vines average sixty years of age.

My review:  Very spicy and hot on the nose.  Fruit component was predominantly cranberry.  Tasted dry and did not seem "ready" for consumption (the suggested window of consumption was between 2014-2024).  Smooth and VERY tannic.

I tasted this on its own without food.
